About Me

Hi, my name is Candice. Welcome to my blog, Nested Threads. Here, I share my journey learning to sew, my experience learning new techniques and growing skills, and the projects I make.

My husband bought me a sewing machine for our third Christmas together, but it ended up sitting in the box for an extended period of time. I really wanted to learn, but I always found it intimidating and ended up being “too busy” to make more than a trivial effort. I finally made a point of getting it out and learning how to use it during the summer of 2013. My family had made a large move and I suddenly found that I now had the time. While I tried to make clothing, I found that I became frustrated very quickly with it, and tried making a quilt instead. I am so very glad I did, because it has become my favorite type of project.

I learned how to crochet when I was very young by watching my Mammaw and mimicking what she was doing. While I do enjoy it, I make the stitches backwards, which slows me down and makes any project bigger than a dog blanket a non viable goal.

I enjoy reading, but mostly young adult fiction. Since my B.A. is in Middle Childhood Education, I used to attribute this to wanting to keep up with what the kids were reading, but now I realize it just seems to be a guilty pleasure of sorts. After our big move I kept reading this genre of books and haven’t stopped.

I also happen to love playing games…. video, computer, table top, card…. heck, I’m not really all that particular. I really enjoy the social aspects that allow everyone to be engaged, but laid back and relaxed. I guess that can describe the quilting community too.

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you will come back soon!
